Both Ephesians 4:8 and 1Corinthians 12:1, 4-11 need to be exposed for what they are: complete fabrications concerning the gifts of the Spirit! The former verse is supposed to be a quote from Psalm 68:18 and was clearly meant to lead into the false doctrine of God giving men gifts (Ephesians 4:11-16). But Psalm 68:18 states quite the opposite:
“You have ascended on high, You have led captivity captive; You have received gifts from man, even from the rebellious, that Yahweh God might dwell there.”
Men were giving gifts to God! God received gifts from man, not the other way around. The Greek word doma, does in fact mean gifts, but it was translated from the Hebrew word matanah, used in Psalm 68:18, which actually means a sacrificial offering to God, and would most definitely mean man gave offerings TO God, rather than the other way around.
Lets also take a look at the words for gifts in other verses. In Romans 11:29, Ephesians 4:32, and in all verses in 1Corinthians, the Greek word charisma is translated as gifts.
More importantly, in other places this exact same word, charisma is translated as forgiven (Ephesians 4:32, Colossians 2:13). If we look up charisma in the Strong’s concordance we will find that it really means Divine pardon, and has absolutely nothing to do with gifts of the Spirit.
Romans 6:13, Romans 11:29, Romans 12:6, 1Corinthians 1:7, 1Corinthians 7:7, 1Corinthians 12:4, 9, 28, 30 & 31, 2Corinthians 1:11, 2Corinthians 8:4, 1Timothy 4:14, 2Timothy 1:6 and 1Peter 4:10 all use the Greek word charisma.
As has just been pointed out above, this word really means Divine pardon, forgiveness or deliverance. These verses are NOT speaking of the so-called gifts of the Spirit, they are speaking of the gift of God’s forgiveness––God’s gift of Redemption!
In Romans 5:18, 1Corinthians 12:1, 1Corinthians 13:2, 1Corinthians 14:1 & 12, there is no word at all in the Strong’s Concordance for the word gifts––it is in Italics in our Bibles, which always means the translators threw the word in to cause the verse to be changed, or to cause it to make sense to them. And in the case of the above verses (Ephesians 4:8 & 1Corinthians 12:1, 4-11), the word gifts was added to complete the false teaching of the gifts of the Spirit.
Not only is the next section (after Ephesians 4:8) speaking of the gifts God supposedly gave to man false, but this definitely gives credence to the belief system of the hierarchy within the Catholic church––which is not of God. This may have been done in order to try to clarify what the Catholics clearly had invented (with the help of Constantine I’s hierarchy).
It is not recorded that Yeshua ever spoke of this supposed hierarchy, and He is our authority and our example. God is not a democracy, and He would never have used man’s version of government and hierarchy in His congregations.
Bottom line: the only gift God gave to mankind was REDEMPTION––that which His Own Blood paid for according to His Own laws.
